christmas trees and a little favour

I wasn't going to put our tree up this year seeing as we are going away, but I have changed my mind.

It's Christmas. We have children. It's my favourite holiday. We can still get the same amount of tree enjoyment if I put it up this weekend.

Can you hear that groaning noise? It's Ben. Now he has to climb the ladder. :)

Here are some trees that will get you in the ladder climbing/untangle the fairy lights mood.

a ladder tree - already in the tree shape!
hang ornaments on the wall
or little stockings
an outdoor tree. no vacuuming!
traditional

a wall sticker tree
a cute branch
recycled tree!
My favourite - traditional. It's the old fashioned lady in me.

Now to my favour.

I was just taking part in a class chat and it made me feel very awkward. It's not the first time I have felt ignored and it can make you feel like rubbish.

Too many people read blogs believing they are under the assumption that the writer is a goddess, the answer to all life's questions and that their life is better than yours.

I participate in chats to talk to other ladies about craft. I am not interested in people making others feel ignored because it makes them feel superior.

When you come to my blog, come here as my friend and especially come here knowing we are on equal footing. You are no better than me, and I am no better than you. We are equal.

Have a lovely weekend. x

We are equal until I beat you in a game of volleyball, then I rule! Okay, we are equal, but just so you know, I love reading your blog not because I think you will answer all of life's questions for me, but because you lift my spirits, inspire me and help me think outside of life's lovely little box. I also come here because you're honest and I imagine that you like to shoot Nerf darts high on the wall in your spare time. And because of that, we're friends.

Loove that cupcake tree!!!! And the book tree. But I think I'm like you, the traditional will always have my heart! I can't wait to see yours! Do you have a color theme or just all kinds of ornaments or what??? Tell! Tell! ;)
I've never been this excited for Christmas this early (as an adult anyway, lol)! Put up the tree! hehehehehe

I'm sorry you were made to feel that way during the chat. I had to leave because my day ended at work and I had to get to the store and home. =( Sending you big hugs. You are an amazing woman. xoxo

Ditto to all that you and everybody else said, except, I can't play volleyball. Too old, no wait, even when I was younger I never could. For goodness sake my 5yo grandson told me three years ago not to worry about not being able to catch a ball, I will get it some day!
You have a great day and remember people who ignore you, say more about themselves than about you!

i'm going away for christmas too but i love the season too much to not decorate at all - i'm putting up my tree this weekend also!
i really like that ornaments on the wall idea.

i'm glad you mentioned that about chats - that's basically why i don't ever participate in them anymore. it's actually nice to know i'm not the only one who feels that way!

LOVE the wall trees and the poor traditional trees that seem to be becoming out of 'fashion'.

regarding what you wrote about feeling excluded and people's perceptions - PEOPLE ARE WEIRD.

;)

You never make us feel that way here. You make us feel special and wanted. I love the deep and meaningful things you talk about and also the very lovely photos you share.

Those Christmas photos are really beautiful and I look forward to checking a few of them out a bit more. Have a great time with your children decoration your tree this weekend.

Keep up the good work!

I must admit I have stopped reading a few blogs and websites because the writers themselves think they are goddesses - or they come across that way and not in the I'm a goddess, you're a goddess, we are all goddesses way. In the, I rule you are all my minions kinda way ;) Just know we all loves ya Toni :)

I come to this blog because you are so real. OK maybe I'm jealous of your lovely garden and your fab sewing abilities but you come across as lovely. And real.

As for the trees, mine is black with gold stars and red trim :D Craigs only nod to letting me get my own way. (He is the king of beige!) And this year I have a fabulous amigurami Alice Cooper Angel to take pride of place - Craig just gave up when Alice fluttered through the door this week :P)

I love that bottled one but it wouldn't last 5 minutes in our house with mad kids and dogs charging everywhere :P

Hi Toni, I love the trees and I think I will try the outdoor one myself this year, as we are going away too but people will still appreciate it if it's in the garden!

I had a bit of a rant about the 'blogger as percieved goddess' thing the other day, although from a different angle. If you've got time and inclination, do pop over and read it, especially for the comments, which show that the subject definitely touches nerves!

It's at:

Yours very equally,

What great tree samples...but I'm traditional too. I have a friend who has a tree in every room, some small, some large, all decorated in different themes. No children - can you tell?! And thanks for the message in your post. You're right, too many people have to be "better" than someone else. Not so. Created equally - treat everyone equally- but stay away from sports:). That is NOT an equal kind of thing! Have a great weekend.

very inventive trees - i'm a traditionalist - i refuse to put up a tree until our thanksgiving has passed.

what, we're equals? LOL you know i don't think of silly things like status. i just know i adore you.

Hi Toni, thanks for sharing these trees, I never took mine down from last year and at some point this summer it got in the way so I lifted it up and put it in a chair and there it has set. I'll have to move my craft boxes out from in front of it so I can put my Mom's shiny brights on for this season-since we moved into the apartment I haven't had a big tree(I miss it), my tree for 2006 was a small Dollar Store one and I had light blue and pink as my main colors with sliver and gold and cream colored eyelet ruffle as my 'rope'-we didn't have any extra cash so i took paper clips and went through my buttons and beads and made dangle ornaments, while I was at our 'girls night out' I ran across some old pink/blue/white Martha Stewart paper ornaments that I cut out and glued together as well, the tree listed to one side because I had a huge binder clip holding it together{I actually got the tree for free because it was broken). For 2007 I went back and got another small tree{unbroken this time} and used my clown collection as ornaments, I was taking part in Rebecca Sowers handcrafted and homespun Christmas so the angel skirt was made by tracing a spatula and covering it in a gold candy wrapper, the bodice was made by taking a sticky backed scrapbook embellishment, I stamped a full face onto some paper and beaded it and glued it to a clothes pin, the rope was saran wrap{clear food wrap} that I strung with plastic barrel beads ever-so-often. My tree for 2008 was amish-mash of ornaments with some new Dollar Store/Tree buys, and my Mom's old silver balls-the tree itself was an everyday tree- I stuck the other two smaller ones in the tree basket to make it fuller. Thank you for being here and sharing you. Happy happies.
